About Gonorrhea Testing

Who should get tested for gonorrhea?

According to the CDC, individuals who are sexually active, particularly those with multiple partners or those who have had unprotected sex, should consider getting tested for gonorrhea. This is especially true for individuals aged 25-40, as this demographic has been shown to be at a higher risk. Additionally, anyone who has been diagnosed with another STD/STI should also get tested for gonorrhea, as the presence of one STD can increase the risk of contracting others.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for gonorrhea is crucial in preventing the spread of the disease and mitigating potential health complications. If left untreated, gonorrhea can lead to serious health issues such as pelvic inflammatory disease in women, which can cause infertility. In men, it can cause painful conditions in the tubes attached to the testicles, potentially affecting fertility. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, reducing the risk of these complications.

Gonorrhea testing options in Morristown, TN:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are a convenient option for gonorrhea testing. Well-Key Urgent Care in Sevierville, TN, for instance, offers STD testing services and has a high rating for its friendly staff. Appointments can be booked for the same or next day through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another reliable option for gonorrhea testing. Your regular healthcare provider can perform the test during a routine check-up. They can also provide comprehensive care and follow-ups if needed.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those with financial constraints, free STD testing is available at community health centers. Health First Care Center in Greeneville, TN, for instance, provides such services.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are also available for those who prefer privacy. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and sent back to a lab for testing. Results are typically available within a few days.

Prevalence of gonorrhea in Morristown

According to the CDC, the prevalence of gonorrhea in Morristown, located in Grainger County, TN, is lower than the national average but higher than some nearby counties like Bullitt County and Madison County. The rate has been relatively stable over the past few years, with slight fluctuations.

Risk factors related to gonorrhea in Morristown

Risk factors for gonorrhea in Morristown include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and previous or existing STDs. The city's proximity to larger cities like White Pine and Bulls Gap, which have higher gonorrhea rates, could also contribute to the risk.

Other STDs in Morristown

Other prevalent STDs in Morristown include chlamydia, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis. Chlamydia, in particular, has a higher prevalence rate than gonorrhea. It's important to note that testing for one STD should often be accompanied by testing for others, given the interconnected risks and the fact that STDs can often be asymptomatic.
