I came in with concerns of my skin on my forehead and scalp dryness. I asked the provider, Lisa, a nurse practitioner, to be prescribed some medication to treat my skin and did not get any form of medication provided. I came in a month before to visit and was given medication for it and the condition came back a week after. I am afraid of it getting progressively worse over time and had expressed my concerns for it.

I was able to book an appointment for the same day very quickly. The wait time was fine. Everyone was friendly. My only complaint is small. They gave my daughter a popsicle, which was great, but I had to fight to open it be a use they didn't have a way to properly do it where the scissors would be clean. A minor annoyance, really. In all, the experience was great and I'd recommend Care+ pediatric to anyone in need of after hours care.

I was able to easily schedule my appointment online before leaving home. When I arrived the front desk let me know they were running 30 min behind the appointment schedule. I ended up waiting over an hour after my appointment time to be called from the waiting room. The triage nurse collected a covid/flu swab then put me in a room. The nurse practitioner walked in the room and told me my result and her plan. She didn’t seem to have any intent to touch me. I mentioned that my asthma also was also a concern. That finally prompted a physical exam. She offered me an asthma medication that is already on my home list, updated in triage. I don’t think this provider reviewed my medical history or medication list. I don’t think I would have gotten a physical exam if I hadn’t spoke up.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I was there for a rapid COVID test. On Friday, I went to a location close to my house but was referred to one 10 miles away. I arrived at 8:06 AM, called the number on the door and was given the opportunity to leave a message. At 9:30, I noticed that people who arrived after me were receiving treatment, I called again, and after being put on hold, talked to a real person who told me that the individual locations don't get the phone messages so she checked me in. That was a WASTED 1 1/2 hours. I was finished about 11:25. Once I was checked in properly, the actual process was smooth.

Frankly, I love this place. I love first med. I was treated here several years ago for pneumonia and was given superb service. I have taken several rapid Covid tests here and I appreciate the care they take to ensure that their patients are safe. This particular first med urgent care has an extremely friendly and warm staff. I did accidentally pushed know that I would not recommend first med but clearly I will recommend it to anyone and I have sent several people there for Covid test. Thank you

- Verified patient on 10/23

Recent COVID test it handled with the utmost professionalism & compassion. The staff at this facility need to be commended!! They are ALL UNDER so much stress, I can’t safe enough kinds words to express how grateful to such caring medical personnel right in my own backyard!! God Bless these providers they are under tremendous pressure every day! I’m proud of their efforts & know my family are in great hands here 🙏🏾

- Verified patient on 9/28

The website did not clearly explain the process for getting a rapid Covid test. The signs are the door were confusing. One, at the very begging of the day, said that they had already done all of the tests they could for the day. The other told patients to call for an appointment. I called the number repeatedly for 45 minutes before I got through. I also left my name and number the day before my test and the day of and never received a return call. One I did have the test conducted, I was told I would have the results in the same day. I still have not received my results.

- Verified patient on 6/12

We made an appointment to have a covid test for my daughter. They were very friendly, came out to our car to do the test. We waited for 20 minutes for results in our car and then the doctor brought out the negative result paperwork and discussed it with us.

- Verified patient on 9/29

I was on the walk-in wait list for a rapid Covid test. I like that I got to go home & wait for them to call & tell me it was my turn to come to the tent for my test. I’m glad I didn’t have to sit in their lobby or wait in my car for my appointment time. It was a very long wait because of all the people that had appointments. Great job FirstMed for coming up with that waiting option. The young man that did our test was very quick & knew what he was doing!

- Verified patient on 7/11

we had to wait a long time due to a entire fire department needing testing as well as us. the staff was friendly and very apologetic about the wait time. we understood. we never went into the facility since we were there for a covid test.

- Verified patient on 6/17

The care is good. But, I don't agree with the note to go back to work on. It states the date to return but he wrote if all criteria has been met below which describe covid 10 obligations. It would be confusing to an employer on what to do because it was confusing to me. I had an upper respiratory infection. At my place of work it sounds like this P.A. is trying to quarantine me. I feel they just wanted to get an additional covid test with my insurance. The note should have only printed the day seen and can return to work statement, not the 3 paragraphs talking about if you have covid if you were tested and quarantine subject that is all unnecessary. I'm not showing the note to my employer because he might think as it reads all about quarantine 10 days. I cant afford that without pay.

- Verified patient on 3/12

I went for a rapid COVID test. The doctor met me at my car and was very friendly. From the time time I got there and had the test done was less than 10 minutes. The staff called back with my results about 30 minutes later.

- Verified patient on 9/26

I did not want to wait 2 days to get a COVID test but I was SO impressed with the efficiency once I called that I was ready for my appt. I’m thankful for your testing set up and the happy attitudes the doc and nurse had during our testing on a very hot day.

- Verified patient on 7/14

I did have to wait a while, but I understand the circumstances. The staff was very kind and considerate especially considering how overwhelmed they are with Covid testing. The attending physician was very kind and very professional. Very good experience under such trying times.

- Verified patient on 6/26

When I got the call back to do the triage over the phone, the guy who called me pretty much called me a liar. He asked if I had ever had a Covid test. I said no. He said ‘I recognize your name, I know you’ve had a Covid test. Now be honest, how many Covid tests have you had?’. My answer was correct the first time. None. I dont Appreciate being called a liar. I was in last week and got a strep test. I’ve gotten worse and came in today for a Covid test. He could have just looked at my chart rather than accusing me of lying. Treating a patient like that is not acceptable. Hopefully this can be used an a training tool to improve customer service.

- Verified patient on 11/16

Ray shell, the desk attendant was rude, I made an appointment on line be she didn’t have it. I told her what I needed( the results of a covid test) she said she was to busy. They were not any busier than when I walk-in on Tuesday afternoon and the receptionist was very nice.

- Verified patient on 8/14

Best of all the places I tried before to get a COVID test. The phone messag was VERY helpful and the people were great—even called me back when they noticed I was still waiting in the parking lot when I was cleared to go. Thanks

- Verified patient on 12/19

I got there at 7 to get a COVID test and I saw that we had to call at 8. It was a little frustrating that I was there so early and it took 3 hours to get tested. However, I’m not sure how I would fix it. I’m sure y’all are doing your best to get things done fast and efficiently. Thanks for all you do

- Verified patient on 7/17

I was very grateful the staff was able to test for COVID especially when it came back positive. It took 2.5hrs from the time I got there to the time I got the results from the doctor. The staff was doing as much as they could and I really appreciated them giving me estimated wait times in my car between each step Incase I wanted go get a drink or leave for a few minutes. They were seeing so many people. If you go for COVID testing, be patient and kind to the staff, they are working really hard to help us.

- Verified patient on 6/30

Got there 10 min early like asked. Called, they did some intake questions over the phone. Texted me 5 minutes later to come to the outside tent. COVID test was quick, Doc did a strep test too just based on my symptoms. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Got my results back in in less than an hour! 100% recommend

- Verified patient on 7/17

I had to do a rapid Covid test. Very friendly staff. I’ve been there years ago and had taken my mom in before she passed a few years ago and your staff back then was so good with her. Not much has changed since then. Appreciate you all!

- Verified patient on 10/25

The staff were so nice. Very professional. I went there for a covid test and when the nurses saw that I use a walker, they came to the car instead of me going to them. To me that meant going above and beyond. I will always use them if I need urgent care.

- Verified patient on 1/15

I only came in for a covid test; however, the wait time was only 20 min or so, even tho 38 patients were ahead of me. The receptionist was friendly & professional; the PA who ran my test was thoughtful, thorough, & efficient. Once I entered the clinic, it was only 5 min until I left.

Oklahoma City COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Oklahoma City?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Oklahoma City?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Oklahoma City-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Oklahoma City?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Oklahoma City including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Oklahoma City?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Oklahoma City-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Oklahoma City?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Oklahoma City are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Oklahoma City?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Oklahoma City?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
