I came in one day without an appoint and waited two hours as a walk-in before I had to leave without being tested. I made an appointment through Quest Lab Testing for the next day, showed up on time, got tested easily and was on my way in 15-20 minutes. Staff is friendly and helpful.

I was able to choose a Quest lab location and schedule an appointment. Check in was easy, and I only needed to provide my name and DOB. They were able to locate my order in their system. They were already aware that my labs were paid for prior to the appointment. I had my labs done on a Wednesday, and I received my results by Saturday. Great experience.

The "sign in online, prior to showing up" didn't work for us, but we got there 90 mins before closing and there were 30 people in front of us, with only 1 doctor working. Listen, these nurses were busting their butts to get everyone seen and feeling better. All that said, I was released 30 mins before closing and the doctor was able to prescribe medication that I was needing 35 years ago for the asthma and allergies I have been diagnosed with. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Went in on a Saturday, was in and out in under an hour. The staff at the front desk were friendly and efficient, and the NP was great. She listened to my concerns and prescribed the medication that I needed. Feeling better already. It was a five-star experience, and I will recommend this location.

Getting Tested for STDs in Columbia, SC

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially those between the ages of 15 and 24, as they account for half of all new STD infections, according to the CDC. This includes individuals who have multiple sexual partners, those who engage in unprotected sex, and people who have been sexually assaulted. It's also important for pregnant women to get tested, as STDs can have serious health impacts on both the mother and baby.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, many STDs do not show symptoms, meaning you could be infected and unknowingly transmitting the disease to others. Secondly, early detection and treatment can prevent serious health complications, such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased risk of HIV. Lastly, getting tested can provide peace of mind and encourage healthier sexual behaviors.

STD testing options in Columbia, SC:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics provide convenient, same-day STD testing. One such clinic is MEDcare Urgent Care in West Columbia, which has a rating of 1.2 based on 18 reviews. Another option is AFC Urgent Care in Columbia, with a rating of 2.0 based on 13 reviews. Both clinics offer same-day and next-day testing appointments that can be booked through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another reliable option for STD testing. Your regular doctor can provide confidential testing and ongoing care. This can be particularly beneficial if you require treatment, as they already have a comprehensive understanding of your health history.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those with limited resources, free STD testing is available at various community health centers. These centers often offer comprehensive sexual health services, including education and counseling, in addition to testing.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are another option for those seeking privacy. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and sent back to a lab for testing. Results are typically available online within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Columbia

According to the CDC, Columbia, located in Lexington County, has seen a steady increase in STD cases over the past few years, mirroring a national trend. This includes diseases like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. When compared to nearby counties like Forsyth, Patrick, Henry, Washington, and Grayson, Lexington County ranks higher in STD prevalence.

Risk factors related to STDs in Columbia

Several factors contribute to the high prevalence of STDs in Columbia. These include a lack of comprehensive sex education, limited access to healthcare, poverty, and stigma around STD testing. Furthermore, densely populated urban areas like Columbia tend to have higher STD rates due to increased opportunities for transmission. Addressing these risk factors is crucial in reducing the spread of STDs in Columbia.
