Everything was good except for one thing... She did the quick results in front of me and I was very surprised and unprepared for one of the results to be a non-negative. It turned out to be because of a prescription that I'm on. It was very unsettling. They should ask about prescriptions and/or provide a list of medications that will affect the results. We have enough anxiety in society already.

Blood and urine were collected, test results came back quickly within 2 days because I did my test on a Friday. Quick, easy and cheap. Getting Tested for STDs in Gresham, OR

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially those with multiple partners or those who engage in unprotected sex. According to the CDC, specific age groups are more at risk, with young people aged 15-24 accounting for half of the 20 million new sexually transmitted infections that occur in the United States each year. Even if you are in a monogamous relationship, it's still recommended to get tested as some STDs can remain dormant and undetected for years.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. Early detection can prevent serious health complications such as infertility, cancer, and organ damage. Many STDs are asymptomatic, meaning they show no signs or symptoms, so regular testing is the only way to know for sure if you're infected. Additionally, knowing your status can help prevent the spread of STDs to others.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for STD testing. If you have a regular doctor, they can often provide testing services or direct you to an appropriate facility.

Prevalence of STDs in Gresham

Gresham, located in Multnomah County, has seen a steady increase in STD rates over the years, mirroring the national trend. According to the CDC, the most common STDs include chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Comparatively, nearby counties such as Lincoln, Sherman, Pierce, Wasco, and Marion have also reported similar increases.

Risk factors related to STDs in Gresham

Several factors contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Gresham. These include a lack of regular testing, unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and certain demographic factors such as age and socioeconomic status. Additionally, stigma and lack of awareness about STDs can also contribute to their spread. It's important for residents to understand these risks and take appropriate measures, such as regular testing and practicing safe sex.

  • What STDs can be detected by a blood test?

  • Can I test myself for STDs at home?

Although there are several STD home tests available, not all of them are accurate. The accuracy of any STD test is determined by the quality of the sample taken. For home STD kits, a blood sample, a urine sample, or both are frequently required. Because doctors and nurses have more experience collecting samples, traditional in-office STD testing is the most accurate.
