I saw review on the Solv page and it completely confused me. First of all, the office looks wonderful, very fresh and new appearing! Second, everyone at the office was friendly and helpful from the minute, I walked in until the we left. The nurses and PA that I saw were very thorough and genuinely seemed concerned. Other than my normal primary care copay, I wasn't charged for anything else. My experience was great from start to finish.

Getting Tested for STDs in New Bern, NC

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This includes individuals who are in monogamous relationships, as STDs can remain dormant for years before showing symptoms. Particularly, individuals who engage in unprotected sex, have multiple sexual partners, or use intravenous drugs are at a higher risk and should get tested regularly. It's also important to note that some STDs can be transmitted through non-sexual means, such as sharing needles or from mother to child during childbirth.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, many STDs do not exhibit symptoms in the early stages, making it possible to unknowingly transmit the disease to others. Secondly, untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased risk of contracting HIV. Lastly, early detection through testing allows for prompt treatment, which can effectively manage symptoms and reduce the risk of transmission.

Std testing options in New Bern, NC:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are a convenient option for STD testing in New Bern, NC. FastMed Urgent Care located in Morehead City, NC, and Jacksonville Urgent Care in Jacksonville, NC, offer STD testing services. These facilities offer same-day and next-day appointments, which can be booked through Solv's website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another reliable option for STD testing. Your primary care provider can discuss your sexual history, assess your risk factors, and recommend the appropriate tests. They can also provide follow-up care and treatment if needed.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing. These centers provide confidential testing and counseling services. However, it's important to note that availability may vary, and it's recommended to call ahead to confirm.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are a private and convenient option. These kits can be ordered online, and the sample collection can be done in the privacy of your own home. The samples are then sent to a lab for testing, and results are usually available within a few days.

According to the CDC, the most commonly reported STDs in the area are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. When compared to nearby counties such as Northampton County and Forsyth County, Pamlico County's STD rates are relatively high, indicating a need for increased awareness and testing.

Risk factors related to STDs in New Bern

Several factors contribute to the high prevalence of STDs in New Bern. These include a lack of comprehensive sex education, limited access to healthcare services, and socioeconomic factors such as poverty. Additionally, stigma associated with STDs often prevents individuals from seeking testing and treatment.
