St Michaels is not where you should go for urgent care. I went there becuase of pain around groin area. The nurse wanted to put me on antibiotics when i had told her i did not have any of those symptoms. They sent my urine off to see if anything came back with any bacterial growth. This past thursday i received a call from the clinic but i was busy. So i returned the call later. The receptionist said they would call me back becuase the nurse was with patient. I did not hear anything back. The next day i called and they told the same thing nurse with will call back. Again i called second time that day and the same line . Nurse will call back. So today on Saturday i called again and same line.it has been two whole days and i have not received any feedback about my results. Whats the point in going to get care when they cant even take five minutes to tell me my results over the phone . The operation is lacking in coverage and i wont be going there again. What if it was something urgent and i needed to know my results in order to make a proper medical decision. Its a waste of time and they do not care about your health.

I think the clinic is excellent. I love my doctor, Dr. Hibbetts and his great nurse! The receptionist are always excellent. I was new to Mississippi when looking for a doctor equal to mine in Kansas. Dr. Hibbetts exceeds my expectation! Thank God! Ronald Walker, retired see m#m Superintendent, Geary County, USD 475, Junction City, KS. I LOVE MY DOCTOR AND HIS NURSE! .

Getting Tested for STDs in Laurel, MS

Who should get tested for STDs?

According to the CDC, anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs. This is particularly important for those who have multiple partners, or are in a relationship with someone who does. Individuals who have had unprotected sex, shared needles for drug use, or are experiencing symptoms of an STD should also get tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for a number of reasons. Firstly, many STDs do not have visible symptoms, meaning you could be infected and unknowingly spreading the disease to others. Secondly, untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased risk of HIV infection. Lastly, knowing your STD status can help you make informed decisions about your sexual health and protect your partners.

STD testing options in Laurel, MS:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care clinics such as MEA Ambulatory Care Laurel Clinic and Maxem Health Urgent Care in nearby Hattiesburg offer STD testing services. These clinics are a convenient option as they often offer same-day or next-day appointments, which can be booked through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for STD testing. If you have a trusted healthcare provider, they can often provide testing services or refer you to a specialist if necessary.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing. While these centers may not offer the convenience of same-day appointments, they are a valuable resource for those who cannot afford to pay for testing.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option for those who prefer privacy. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis.

Prevalence of STDs in Laurel

While specific data for Laurel is not readily available, according to the CDC, Mississippi has one of the highest rates of STDs in the country. The state ranks first for gonorrhea, second for chlamydia, and third for syphilis. It's important to note that these numbers could be higher due to underreporting or lack of testing.

Risk factors related to STDs in Laurel

Risk factors for STDs in Laurel are likely similar to those in the rest of the state. These include high poverty levels, lack of sex education in schools, and limited access to healthcare services. The close proximity to other high-risk counties such as Webster County and Covington County may also contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Laurel.
