I would 100% recommend this company to anyone wanting to check their health status. The process was incredibly easy and done through certified labs. The results are frequently back by the next day.

I came in one day without an appoint and waited two hours as a walk-in before I had to leave without being tested. I made an appointment through Quest Lab Testing for the next day, showed up on time, got tested easily and was on my way in 15-20 minutes. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Urgent Care 24/7, Bulldog Urgent Care - 494 Baxter St
These wonderful, incredible people saved my dad's life in Nov 2021. He's immunocompromised and had COVID, and he was not doing well at all. But he was adamant about not going to a hospital, because everyone we know who was admitted for COVID didn't make it out alive. (It's still happening too: just lost another cousin today to the killer protocols.) I truly believe that if my dad hadn't received the treatment and meds that he was given here, we would have lost him. He recovered, thanks to the staff at Bulldog Urgent Care & their life-saving assistance. He's regained his strength, and is now back to doing things that alarm his regular doctors-- they don't believe 81 y.o. men should be climbing on roofs to repair them, or working outside for hours in the summer heat in GA, for instance. :) But that's just my dad! I can NEVER thank you enough for what you did to save my daddy. But I will keep all of you in my prayers for the rest of my life. You're my heroes, and I am eternally grateful.

Getting Tested for STDs in Athens, GA

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially if they have multiple partners or do not consistently use protection. Those who have had unprotected sex, shared needles for drug use, or have symptoms of an STD should get tested immediately. It's important to remember that many STDs can be asymptomatic, meaning they present no symptoms. Therefore, regular testing is crucial for sexually active individuals, even if they feel perfectly healthy.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is a vital part of maintaining your overall health. Untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility, cancer, and increased risk of HIV. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, reducing the risk of these severe outcomes. Additionally, knowing your status can help prevent the spread of STDs to your sexual partners.

STD testing options in Athens, GA:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics offer convenient, same-day STD testing. These facilities often have extended hours and do not require an appointment. In Athens, GA, you can visit Guilford Immediate Care located at 5769 Old Winder Hwy, Braselton, GA 30517 for your testing needs. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments at this location through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also conduct STD testing. This can be a good option if you have a long-standing relationship with your provider and feel comfortable discussing your sexual health with them.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers and public health departments often provide free or low-cost STD testing. These services are typically income-based, so they can be a good option for those without insurance or with limited financial resources.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are another option. These kits can be ordered online, used in the privacy of your own home, and then sent back to a lab for testing. Results are typically available within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Athens

According to the CDC, Athens, GA, located in Jackson County, has seen an increase in STD cases in recent years, mirroring a national trend. This includes a rise in chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis cases. It's important to note that these statistics may not reflect the true prevalence of STDs in Athens, as many cases go unreported due to lack of symptoms.

Risk factors related to STDs in Athens

Several factors contribute to the high prevalence of STDs in Athens. These include a lack of comprehensive sex education, limited access to healthcare services, and social stigma associated with STD testing. Additionally, certain demographic groups, such as young adults and men who have sex with men, have been disproportionately affected by STDs. It's crucial for individuals in Athens to understand these risk factors and take proactive steps to protect their sexual health.

In a doctor's office, a health clinic, or an urgent care center, you can get an STD test. If you're experiencing symptoms, it's best to visit a doctor's office, where they can also treat you or issue you a prescription. Your doctor may also take a swab from the inside of your cheek, your vaginal area, or another potentially infected place.

  • What STDs can be detected by a blood test?

Blood tests are used to diagnose hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes, HIV, and syphilis.
